Our Townsville: Sea Turtle Foundation at Anderson Gardens

On June 15th, the Sea Turtle Foundation was proud to be part of the vibrant Our Townsville community event held at Anderson Gardens, hosted by Townsville City Council. Nestled in the dedicated “Our Reef” section, our stall provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with locals, share our passion for turtle conservation, and showcase the vital work we do.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Townsville City Council for organising such a dynamic and engaging event, and an even bigger shoutout to our amazing volunteers, whose support made the day a great success.

Visitors to our stall were treated to a range of fun and educational activities, including:

  • A real green turtle shell, generously donated by the Mackay and District Turtle Watch
  • A guessing competition: “How much plastic was found in a green sea turtle?”, with a turtle tag keychain, Sea Turtle Foundation water bottle up and EUGY sea turtle up for grabs!
  • Kids got the chance to pick up colouring sheets packed with sea turtle facts to take home
  • Our latest STF blogs, DETSI/STF newsletter, and informative brochures on light pollution, marine life rescue, and past STF collaborations
  • Help on what to do when injured marine life needs help, plus QWildlife app download QR codes
  • QR codes linking to our social media, donation page, and volunteer sign-up form
  • And of course, lots of STF stickers to take home!

Events like Our Townsville allow us to raise awareness, build connections, and inspire the next generation of turtle advocates. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, your support helps keep turtles swimming!
