TURTLE EDUCATION PROGRAM VISITS CURRAJONG SCHOOL

Turtle Education Program visits Currajong Primary School

As part of our Turtle Education Program, the Sea Turtle Foundation team recently visited Currajong Primary School in Townsville, Queensland. During the visit, the team hosted an interactive workshop
designed to educate and inspire students about the vital role sea turtles play in maintaining a healthy planet. The
workshop also highlighted the challenges turtles face, their populations, and the ways in which everyone can contribute to sea turtle conservation on a daily basis.

Gabrielle Joslin-Thomas, Program Leader, shared, “The students were incredibly knowledgeable about sea turtle science and conservation! They exceeded my
expectations.” Gabrielle and our team of volunteers also had the pleasure of attending the students’ wonderful
‘Shellabration’ performance. This presentation was part of an assignment in which the students explored the various life stages of sea turtles and the natural and human-induced threats they encounter throughout their lives.
Sue Christensen, the 2CD teacher, praised the program, saying, “Very expert and informed us of new information on aspects of the cycle. We loved your visit and we sincerely thank you for joining us”.

We would like to extend our thanks to 2CD and Currajong State School for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. We’re confident that these students will continue to grow as sea
turtle champions. Looking ahead, our team is excited to announce more school visits in the coming months, with plans to significantly expand the program in 2025.
